If you happen to be in or around Philadelphia between now and April 22nd do yourself a favor and see Zoe Strauss Ten Years at the Philadelphia Museum of Art. I have been living in Philadelphia for six years and can honestly say that Strauss’ photography truly embodies this place as a whole. Strauss (who hails from here) captures the glowing underbelly, the tragically bizarre and the irony that creates this city. You need not to be a Philadelphian to appriciate her work and I encourage you to visit her site if you are unable to see the exhibit in person.

I wish I could vouche for how awesome this recipe is but alas I’m suffering through lent right now. I gave up gluten and dairy (Shut up. I’m Tate, the other founding half of 0ktavia. Since graduating from college in August I’ve found myself reminiscing of 0ktavia and am ecstatic for its return. I am currently in Philadelphia working as a prop assistant and server, but not simultaneously.

Let’s talk about radio.

My father raised me on WFMU, and it’s likely that if you live in and around New York, and you appreciate many genres of music, then you have stumbled upon the radiostation. I had to wipe my hard drive recently and lost all my music… again… and so I survive off WFMU. Not only is it an amazing station that plays, literally, all types of music - but if you tune in and happen to not be digging whats playing live, you can listen to archives and podcasts on the site.

My number one all time favorite show on WFMU is DAVE THE SPAZZ. He got me through high school. I used to lock myself in the dining room and drink beer and spazz out. You can listen to his archives on the link above.

DOWNTOWN SOULVILLE is a new favorite of mine, but I’m completely hooked, I can’t help but move my butt when I tune in. Thank you Mr. Fine Wine!

Another favorite is SINNER’S CROSSROADS, for when I’m feeling holy, or a little too unholy.

FOOLS PARADISE with Rex… I believe he is the man who got Dave The Spazz started at WFMU, and another DJ I adore - I usually listen to him at work while I’m stuffing flowers into vessels.

Let me introduce myself. My name is Aviva Rowley, I was born in Brooklyn 24 years ago and havent left since. I graduated with a BFA from Cooper Union in 2010 and have been working as a florist in DUMBO since then, and I love it. In my free time I pin bugs and hang out with my cat. Tate and I started 0ktavia in 2008 and have been through a lot of life shit since then, but we’re back now! Here is our description from 2008:

“Oktavia is open to all to sneek, peek, peer and glance at for artistic inspiration of all medias. We’ll compile our must haves at the moment and even somethings that must be thrown out. Basically it’s a hodge podge of fashion, art, music, architecture, literature, events and much more for your viewing pleasure”
